Walk along a pristine beach, sample Australia's best wines, settle back with a drink in hand as you ride a paddle steamer down the murray River, or take a 4WD tour to Australia's red heart. South Australia has so much to discover, you'll feel like on of the country's first explorers. From the extraordinary abundant wildlife on Kangaroo Island to the opals and underground homes at Coober Pedy, South Australia offers something for everyone. Sweeping south from Adelaide down to Cape Jervis is Fleue Peninsular where you can catch the ferry to Kangaroo Island. This is seriously good wine country with over 60 cellar doors, restaurants and produce outlets. There are well signed conservation parks, and the coastline offers vast beaches for walking, surfing and swimming. There's whale watching near Victor Harbor from June to October. Aborigines lay claim to the world's most ancient culture, and South Australia offers excellent opportunities to learn more about them.
